2. Beyond Performance: Characterizing “Contemplative Knowledge” in the Education of Video Game Developers

This workshop offers a collaborative space for reflection on a critical form of knowledge often absent from game development curricula: “Contemplative Knowledge.” Drawing on emancipatory learning, reflection-in-action, and critiques of performance-driven culture, participants will explore what it means to practice contemplation during the development process. Through participatory design activities, academics and professionals will discuss the value of intrinsic leisure versus purely utilitarian rest, while collaboratively developing a framework of descriptors that define this reflective and emancipatory form of knowledge. The workshop aims to contribute conceptual tools for its future integration into educational programs.
